About Bergen Church
We Live, We Love,
The Bergen area was first settled by Norwegians in the early 1900's. The Johannesen brothers were instrumental in bringing a large group of Norwegian immigrants to the area. Named after a city in Norway, "Bjørgvin", which means meadow between the mountains. As the area grew a small post office was built by eldest brother J.T. Johannesen in 1905. Eventually a church and school were built on land donated by local families that still reside in the area. Prior to the church being built church services were hosted in peoples homes. The organ owned by J.T. Johannesen sits inside the Pioneer House at the Sundre Museum, along with two of the three handcrafted wooden starbursts found on J.T. Johannesen's homestead.
Welcome to our church community.
God will be glorified and lives transformed – by our prayer, care, and sharing His Truth.
